What is Forté?

The Forté Project is a year-long development project for 10 music acts from South Wales. We look at acts aged 16-25 from the local authorities of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Merthyr Tydfil, Caerphilly, Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend.

We support acts through personal development sessions. music industry masterclasses, providing a dedicated music industry mentor, live event opportunities, support for rehearsals and recording, music development workshops, help with audience development and more. For examples of our workshops, you can find descriptions of each and video examples in our workshops section.

We choose two acts from each of the five local authorities we are funded by (see below) and our decision is based on how ready for our project the act is at the time of application, as well as the quality of their musical output. Musical genre is not a factor when it comes to the acts we choose, but we do focus on popular, original music.

Is Forté a funding platform?

No, the Forté Project is a development project first and foremost. We take acts at a crucial point in their career and through workshops, opportunities and mentoring we take them to the next level. For funding please look into schemes from the BBC Horizons Launchpad or PRS Foundation.

Our support for you is a reflection of a commitment to us. There are workshops and sessions we put on for you to learn more about yourselves as musicians and the wider music industry and your attendance is vital to get the most out of Forté. In return we will get to know your needs a lot better and so can provide more opportunities for you. Your involvement will also reflect a commitment to your career as a musician and will represent a sound investment from us as providers.

We have sessions at least every two weeks in the opening months of the project, usually held on Saturday mornings.

What do we expect from you?
